Authorities in Fayetteville, Arkansas, claim that a son killed his father over the weekend in a bedroom closet using a shotgun, despite the fact that the suspect dialed 911 and stated he had just defended himself and returned fire.
Robert Dickson, 29, called 911 on Sunday afternoon, claiming that a “dispute” with his father had turned deadly in a home on North Bernice Drive, according to a statement released by the Fayetteville Police Department on Monday.
According to Dickson’s account, police reported, a heated dispute over his father’s origins led to both of them “producing firearms and a shooting ensued.”
However, according to jail records, the suspect is currently being charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $750,000 bond due to the evidence found at the scene, or the lack of evidence that corroborates the suspect’s claimed testimony.
“After a swift and thorough investigation, Dickson was found to have shot the man without legal justification and with a purpose of killing him,” police stated.
In other words, it seems clear that Dickson killed his father by shooting him; therefore, the question going forward is whether or not this was a legitimate act of self-defense.
According to a local NBC affiliate KNWA report, Dickson informed police that when his father, who was carrying a pistol, fired first, he reached for the shotgun.
“I grabbed my shotgun and shot back at him. He shot at me first. He was shooting his gun through my door from his room,” the accused stated.
When police arrived on the site at around three p.m. on Sunday, they allegedly discovered Dickson’s father dead from a gunshot wound in his bedroom closet, indicating that he may have been hiding from his son when he was slain.

There were no bullet holes in the doors, despite the claim stating that there was a pistol in the closet. Rather, two obvious bullet holes were noted in the report, with the bullets “travel[ing] through the victim’s room into a wall in the stairway.”
The accused then allegedly went into his father’s bedroom with the intent to kill him. The victim’s age and name have not yet been released by the authorities.
