Single-car Crash in Killeen Kills One, Investigation Underway After High-speed Collision

KILLEEN, Texas (DDN) – The Killeen Police Department is investigating a single-car crash on 38th Street that killed one person.

Around 2:58 a.m. on January 29, officers were dispatched to the junction of Veterans Memorial Blvd. (Bus 190) and 38th St. for a single-vehicle crash.

Officers arrived to find the car partially on fire, and bystanders were administering first aid to the female involved in the accident.

Officers then started performing life-saving measures until Killeen Fire Department paramedics arrived. The woman was taken to Carl R. Darnall Medical Center in critical condition.

According to the preliminary investigation, the white Kia car was going westbound on Veterans Memorial Blvd. at high speed when it left the road and crashed with many utility poles at the 38th St. intersection.

The 49-year-old driver was the only one in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson pronounced her dead at 4:17 a.m. at the hospital, and he ordered an autopsy at Dallas’ Southwest Institute of Forensic Science.

The woman’s name is being concealed until her family is contacted.
