HORRY COUNTY, South Car. (DDN) – A Horry County man is in jail after police say he held someone at gunpoint before causing a chase that resulted in the suspect’s car crashing and catching fire.
The Horry County Police Department accused Casey Davis, 33, with failing to stop for blue lights, pointing and exhibiting firearms at a person, and resisting arrest, according to jail records.
According to police investigations, Davis visited the victim’s residence on Highway 548 in the Conway area on Monday.
According to the claims, Davis was enraged over an argument the victim had with Davis’ mother earlier in the day. The victim attempted to get Davis’ mother out of his home and back to New York.
When Davis arrived, authorities reported that he brandished a weapon at the victim and yelled at him. Davis later informed police that the victim pulled out a gun first, but a witness claimed the victim did not have one, according to the report.
According to reports, the victim called Horry County police, and an officer arrived just as Davis was about to drive away.
According to HCPD, Davis accelerated away from the officer at more than 100 mph before colliding with some trees near the Still Pond Road and Hardwick Road intersection.
According to investigators, Davis fled but was soon apprehended. Davis’ automobile caught fire as cops attempted to clear it.
“I broke out a rear window and shouted into the vehicle in case of any additional victims,” the responding officer said in their report. “There was no answer, and the vehicle was filled with smoke.”
After inspecting the vehicle, HCPD arrested Davis.
Davis was jailed at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $7,000 bond as of this writing.
