Southgate Man Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison for Leading Drug Trafficking Operation in West Virginia

CLARKSBURG, W.VA. – A 33-year-old man from Southgate, Michigan, will spend nearly six years in federal prison after being convicted of running a drug trafficking operation.

This operation brought large amounts of illegal drugs from Michigan into West Virginia for distribution.

On Friday, December 13, 2024, Drake D. Dodson-Williams appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia.

He was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Thomas S. Kleeh to 70 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. This was after Dodson-Williams pleaded guilty to the charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.

Investigation and Arrest

According to U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II, an investigation into drug distribution in Northern West Virginia led authorities to identify Dodson-Williams as the leader of a drug trafficking operation. This organization was responsible for transporting illegal drugs from Michigan to the Harrison County area in West Virginia.

The investigation took a significant step forward when Dodson-Williams was pulled over during a routine traffic stop.

During the stop, law enforcement found and seized illegal drugs, including cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine, along with a large amount of cash. After the discovery, Dodson-Williams was arrested and charged.

Criminal History and Investigation Praise

Investigators later learned that Dodson-Williams had a long history of criminal activity, including several past narcotics-related convictions. The success of his prosecution was largely due to the hard work of various law enforcement agencies.

U.S. Attorney Ihlenfeld thanked the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Greater Harrison Drug Task Force, and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office for their efforts, which led to the successful conviction of Dodson-Williams.
