Following his guilty plea to first-degree arson on Wednesday, the charges of attempted murder and six counts of first-degree assault that had been brought against Barden were dismissed. Additional charges were dismissed by the prosecution as a result of this exchange.

The smoke and flames that were coming from the residence were spotted by the firefighters when they arrived at the scene.
