People with impairments who are unable to work continue to lose their long-awaited financial assistance payments from Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
In order to get benefits under the program, which is run by the Social Security Administration (SSA), one must have previous employment experience.
Two payments have already been paid for beneficiary groups in April (there are three groups per month). On 9 April, payments were given to people whose birthdays fall between the first and tenth of any given month.
Payments were then made on April 16 to people whose birthdays fell between April 11 and April 20.
Lastly, beneficiaries who were born after the 21st of any month will receive their third payment of the month; their fund deposit date is April 23.
2025 SSDI maximum and average amounts
The precise SSDI benefits depend on past earnings and work credits. On the SSA website, recipients can verify information.
To prevent disruptions in direct deposits, the organisation advises updating personal and account information.
In 2025, the average monthly SSDI payout is $1,580, but for individuals who are already 67 years of age or older, the maximum benefit can reach $4,018.
The 2.5% cost of living adjustment (COLA), which was introduced in October 2024 to combat inflation, is included in these numbers.
The benefits of paying SSDI are not the only ones. For instance, SSDI recipients are eligible for Medicare, which covers hospital stays and prescription drugs, 24 months after they first receive SSDI.
Monthly contributions also assist in paying for necessities like housing and transportation.
Essential Conditions for SSDI Disability Benefits Applications
Applicants must meet labour credits accrued through Social Security contributions in order to be eligible for the Disability Insurance (SSDI, which is distinct from Supplemental Security Income, SSI).
40 credits are typically needed, at least 20 of which must have been obtained during the ten years prior to disability. Depending on their age at the time of impairment, people under 31 can require fewer credits.
A medically recognised handicap that prevents substantial work activity (SGA) and is severe and long-lasting (at least 12 months or terminal) is required. The SGA income limit in 2025 is $1,550 per month; the blind are exempt, as their income restrictions are higher.
Candidates must also be citizens or lawful residents of the United States and not incarcerated in federal prisons.
Visit the official SSA website and find the SSDI portal if you believe you are eligible for SSDI and would like to begin the claim process.
