After a nearly two-hour standoff, an incident that started Tuesday morning with a guy circling close to the jail in downtown Nashville came to an end. At before 9:30 a.m., Metro Nashville Police Department officers were called when they saw a suspicious car driving around the building and went to look into it. The man in the car refused to get out when the police requested him to, according to a report by WSMV4.
As authorities surrounded the area surrounding Third Avenue North and Gay Street, the situation quickly became more heated. Negotiations to carefully defuse the situation were still going on at 10 a.m., and a standoff was well under way. At first, no information was given about the man’s name or the reasons behind his circling of the institution. WKRN stated that tactical cops chose to use a flash bang to break the standoff after it escalated.
Shortly before noon, the man was arrested after the flash bang device was used. The public was reassured by Metro police that there was no threat to the region and that all correctional facilities were secure. The man was arrested without any further incidents or reports of injuries after initially being described as a suspicious person pacing the neighborhood.
The event happened close to Second Avenue and Gay Street, a bustling area of downtown Nashville, according to additional confirmation from FOX17. What would have otherwise turned into a more violent altercation was resolved by the Metro Police’s tactical team’s prompt action and the ensuing arrest. The details of the negotiations or the charges against the person have not yet been made public.
