MIAMI, Flo. (DDN) – Miami’s most famous steakhouses exude the vibe of a baller bachelor party. These are stunning dining rooms, complete with chandeliers, martini service, and meat slabs as marbled as a Grecian statue.
However, in our ongoing search for the best steakhouses in the city, we’ve discovered excellent casual spots that remove pretense, wood-fired wonderlands that grill meats as the Argentines do over an open flame, and old-school joints that bring back memories of watching grandpa devour a T-bone for two all by himself.
Cote Miami
Perhaps you’ve had Korean barbecue before, where meats are barbecued on a charcoal grill in the middle of a table in a suburban strip mall restaurant. Cote is a trendier, more elegant variation of that—and far superior. Servers perform a coordinated dance to and from your table, dropping, turning, and plating each beautifully marbled piece of beef. The cuts are excellent, the sides are fantastic, and the entire experience feels like you’ve just seen a Broadway musical.
Dirty French Steakhouse
This is the place to go if you want your steakhouse to seem like a disco-fueled supper club from the 1970s. Dirty French, a windowless basement beneath a Brickell highrise, feels like a party at all hours, as if the clock is always set to 2 a.m. and you’re about to embark on a week-long bender.
But this site is more than just a scene. The Major Food Group (Carbone, Contessa, et al.) has created a steakhouse best-of menu, highlighted by a stunning slice of house-special prime rib. It’s all provided by a professional crew of servers dressed in the most baller pink tuxes and frilly shirts this side of 1979.
Prime 112
In an era where club restaurants prioritize the atmosphere over the food, Prime 112 has traditionally supplied both. It rose to prominence in South Beach’s South of Fifth district as a result of celebrity sightings, and it has persisted in a saturated steakhouse market by serving dishes where prime beef reigns supreme, lobster is stuffed, and Oreos are deep-fried.
Papi Steak
David Grutman, formerly known for his nightclubs, is now a bonafide restaurant billionaire, so of course he needs a steakhouse. There’s the typical steakhouse menu, including wagyu skirt steak and prime porterhouse, as well as kosher options like chicken schnitzel and truffle chicken.
Like many of Grutman’s establishments, it seems like a party up here, right down to the absurd entrances of “The Beefcase,” who is both online famous and infamous for costing a grand and entering in a server chorus line that feels like a pro wrestler’s entrance.
Christy’s Restaurant
This is a steakhouse that your grandparents will like. That is not an insult. While the population is primarily older, Christy’s is a rare breed of traditional steakhouse. A dedicated battalion of servers and cooks attend to your every whim with passion, and the food will always be as good—if not better—than the previous time you dined.
In fact, the famed Caesar salad has not altered in 20 years and is still prepared exactly the same way by the same person. Are you celebrating a birthday? Fiftyth anniversary? Christy’s will make all of the above feel as exceptional as they are; just make sure to finish with the baked Alaska for two.
