(CBS DETROIT) Stellantis partnered with Detroit to provide $3.3 million in home improvement subsidies to locals near the automaker’s Detroit Assembly Complex-Mack. The announcement was made on Thursday.
According to the carmaker, the Home Repair Program, which is managed by Detroit’s Housing and Revitalization Department, will include $600,000 from the Community Benefits Agreement Neighborhood Impact Fund that is being transferred from Invest Detroit as well as $2.7 million in unspent project money.
In a news release, Christine Estereicher, vice president of public affairs for Stellantis North America, stated, “We have been committed to supporting the community since we made the decision to build the first new assembly plant in more than 30 years in the city of Detroit five years ago.” It was simple to decide to reroute these money to where they may be most useful after hearing from our neighbors and realizing that there was more demand for home repairs. Taking care of the future is one of Stellantis’ core beliefs, and we hope that these extra monies will enable our neighbors to upgrade their homes as needed.”
The $1.8 million that Stellantis gave to 120 east side households for home repairs in 2020 and 2021 comes on top of the new cash.
Residents can contact the city’s Housing and Revitalization Department at 313-628-2231 to inquire about applying for a home repair grant. In January 2025, applications will be available.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, a plug-in hybrid, have been manufactured in the Mack assembly factory since 2021.
