NEW HAVEN, Conne. (DDN) – Authorities captured two teenagers following reports of them fleeing from a crashed, stolen car on Tuesday morning.
Authorities initially spotted the car operating erratically in the Hill area at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a statement from the department released on Wednesday. Authorities from the Criminal Intelligence Unit and the Shooting Task Force traced the vehicle’s registration, verifying that the black Volkswagen Atlas had been reported stolen from Branford, according to police.
Authorities tracked the vehicle to the Fair Haven vicinity and deployed stop sticks, causing the front driver-side tire to deflate, as reported by law enforcement.
According to authorities, the Volkswagen sped down Grand Avenue and crashed into another car on Front Street. Those in the other vehicle sustained only minor injuries in the collision.

Authorities reported that multiple individuals were observed fleeing from the Volkswagen, with two of them, both aged 16, being taken into custody. Authorities discovered a handgun at the location where one of the minors was apprehended, along with another firearm located within the vehicle, as reported by law enforcement.
Three teenagers face charges related to the theft of a vehicle, obstructing law enforcement, and possession of a weapon in a vehicle. According to police, they were taken to the juvenile facility in Bridgeport.
