Alexandria’s neighborhoods have many stereotypes associated with them. There are different types of neighborhoods, such as hipster areas, preppy places, neighborhoods with a lot of college students, and areas that are considered less safe.

Alexandria has a neighborhood for everyone. Although Alexandria is often considered one of the best places to live in Virginia due to its abundance of entertainment and job opportunities, it does have its challenges. Certain neighborhoods are less safe than others.

So, the question is, which neighborhoods in Alexandria are the most dangerous and which ones are the safest?

Today, we’ll use Saturday Night Science to figure out which neighborhoods in Alexandria need some extra attention – the areas that stand out in a negative way, so to speak. It’s not realistic to expect all neighborhoods to be amazing, but Potomac Yard-Potomac Greens is much better than the others.

We studied 15 neighborhoods in Alexandria to determine which ones are the most unsafe to live in. These places are not as good as Alexandria is known to be.

Method to Determine the Most Dangerous Alexandria Neighborhoods

In order to determine the quality of a place to live, we simply need to understand people’s preferences and identify the places that have the fewest of those things. We entered the following criteria into Saturday Night Science to find the worst neighborhoods in Alexandria:

  • High crime (Estimated)
  • High unemployment (Less jobs)
  • Low median income (Less pay)
  • Low population density (No things to do)
  • Low home values (No one’s willing to pay to live here)

Next, we evaluated and ranked each neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia based on these criteria, from the least favorable to the most favorable. Afterwards, we calculated the average ranking for each criterion and referred to it as the “Worst Score.”

The neighborhood with the lowest “Worst Score” is considered the most dangerous neighborhood in Alexandria.
