Survey Estimates the Drunkest Cities In Louisiana for 2024

We used a program called Saturday Night Science to find out which cities in Louisiana have the highest rates of alcohol consumption.

Here’s something interesting about Louisiana: The state has the 5th lowest rate of DUI convictions, but its residents consume the 19th highest amount of alcohol. On average, each resident drinks about 30 beers per year, but they are generally responsible in their behavior.

However, even though hundreds of thousands of people abstain from drinking alcohol, the cities listed below consume enough to compensate for it.

How do you determine the amount of alcohol consumed in a location? You can determine the popularity of drinking by looking at the number of places where alcohol is sold and how frequently people discuss drinking.

Additionally, we thought it would be a good idea to include a stereotype. Research has shown that if one or both partners in a marriage have alcoholism, the chances of divorce are three times higher.

New Orleans

Population: 377,022
Divorce rate: 11.6%
Bars per capita: 3rd
Liquor stores per capita: 9th

It’s pretty clear that New Orleans is the drunkest city in the state. Actually, you could argue that New Orleans is the city with the highest rate of alcohol consumption in the country.

There are many places to drink alcohol here, and both locals and tourists definitely make use of them. And, as you might expect, New Orleans had the highest number of drunken Tweets during the 10 days that we measured them.

Covington

Population: 9,146
Divorce rate: 16.2%
Bars per capita: 7th
Liquor stores per capita: 1st

The city of Covington has more liquor stores per person than any other place in the state. It also has two breweries. Additionally, the divorce rate in Louisiana is very high.

When almost one out of every six people ends their marriages, and there are many places to buy alcohol, it raises the question: Do people in Covington get divorced more often because there is a lot of alcohol available, or do they open liquor stores where people want to drink to forget their problems?

Divorce rate: 13.1%
Bars per capita: 5th
Liquor stores per capita: 2nd

Did you know that Slidell has a lot of bars compared to the number of people living there? They have a high concentration of bars, especially if you consider the number of Budweiser bottles in town.
