Suspect Arrested in Marin County Open House Burglaries Linked to Statewide Crime Spree

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division identified Joshua Lamont, who was arrested in Walnut Creek and charged with participating in the burglaries that resulted in the theft of jewels valued at thousands of dollars from properties that were put up for sale.

Lamont consistently pretended to be a fellow agent or a prospective buyer at open houses. In one case, he allegedly stole $15,000 worth of jewelry in the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood in October while posing as a self-guided tour. The suspect allegedly continued his criminal activities by stealing jewelry and checks worth around $10,000 at another open house in the Kent Woodlands neighborhood approximately three weeks after this incident, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives followed the investigation to the hotel where Lamont was staying in Walnut Creek. When police searched his hotel room after he was arrested yesterday, they discovered a number of pawn shop receipts from the Bay Area as well as evidence that connected him to the Kent Woodlands break-in. As part of the investigation, authorities are reaching out to pawn shops and working to retrieve the stolen goods.

Lamont’s bail for the Marin burglaries is $250,000, and he is still being held at the Marin County Jail. His total bond is $400,000.
