Suspect Charged in Connection with Deadly Southeast Atlanta Shooting

A deadly outbreak of gunfire in southeast Atlanta has left one man dead and another injured, while a third man, also injured, now faces charges in what appears to be a connected series of overnight shootings. As authorities continue to unravel the circumstances of these tragic events, the community grapples with the impact of violence on its streets.

Atlanta Police were called to the scene of a shooting on Jonesboro Road SE shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday, as reported byFOX 5 Atlanta. Upon arrival, officers discovered a critically wounded 45-year-old man with multiple gunshot injuries, who was subsequently transported to the hospital but later died from his wounds. Shortly thereafter, a second victim, a 20-year-old man, was found with gunshot wounds to his leg and torso on Lakewood Terrace SE, a location not far from the first scene.

These two incidents were later linked as part of the same shooting event, according to preliminary police investigations. The second shooting victim was also taken to the hospital and, as of now, is expected to survive the injuries sustained during the harrowing night.

Later on the same day, Atlanta police made an arrest in connection to the shootings. The 20-year-old man found injured at Lakewood Terrace, identified as Mason Bates, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and gun possession charges, as detailed byThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Although injured during the incident, once Bates has been treated and released from the hospital, he will be transferred to Fulton County Jail.

No further details concerning the motive or circumstances leading up to the gunfire have been disclosed by officials at this time. There was also a third man injured, a 38-year-old, found at the Jonesboro Road location, but information about his condition or involvement has not been shared publicly.
