Suspected Fuel Thieves Arrested in Volusia County Following Interstate Chase

Two men have been arrested in Volusia County after deputies caught them allegedly involved in a diesel fuel siphoning operation. On Saturday, at around 9:30 p.m., law enforcement officials tracked a black and gold minivan believed to be part of a fuel theft ring from Seminole County. According to

, the gold vehicle was seen parked ominously over a fuel intake port at a RaceTrac gas station before heading to a Waffle House.

It led to a chase on foot after deputies attempted a traffic stop on the unregistered gold minivan, found empty, which then ended with pointing employees from Waffle House towards a man who had begun to run at the switching on of deputies’ emergency lights, according to the sheriff’s office. Henry Gonzalez Ortega, 33, of Hialeah, was arrested after the chase ended behind the gas station. Simultaneously, deputies located the black minivan on the opposite side of Interstate 4, securing its driver, Jose Garcia Aguila, 35, of Orlando, at a Burger King in DeBary, as reported by

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office reported finding two red 5-gallon gas cans and a clear hose in Aguila’s black minivan. They also noted that the rear windows of a gold minivan were heavily tinted, making it impossible to see inside. An extra fuel tank was found behind the front passenger seat, and the vehicle appeared lower than usual. Both Ortega and Aguila are facing charges of stealing and illegally transporting fuel.

The suspects were taken to jail after their arrest. Deputies noticed that the gold minivan’s undercarriage was unusually low, which suggested something was wrong. The investigation started after the Seminole County Crime Center tipped off deputies about the black minivan, leading to the discovery of the fuel theft operation and its suspects.
