Suspected Killer of Temple University Officer Stabbed in Philadelphia Prison

The 19-year-old Miles Pfeffer, who is suspected of shooting Temple University police Sgt. Christopher Fitzgerald to death, was stabbed in a Philadelphia jail. In an altercation that occurred Thursday night at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, Pfeffer had many stab wounds, including some puncture wounds to his skull, according to FOX 29. However, the injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.

Pfeffer, who is still awaiting trial for the 2022 murder charge, got into an altercation in the Holmesburg division of Philadelphia’s prison system. According to CBS News, Pfeffer is charged with several offenses, including the murder of a law enforcement official after the fight outside Temple University that claimed Sgt. Fitzgerald’s life.

During a stop involving three people connected to recent carjackings and robberies, Sgt. Fitzgerald was killed. Instead of pursuing the death penalty, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office charged Pfeffer with robbery, carjacking, and firearms crimes. Officials from the Philadelphia Department of Prisons refused to comment on the jail stabbing despite the seriousness of the accusations, saying, “We cannot comment on an incident that is under investigation,” according to Action News.

After pursuing three people suspected of engaging in illegal activity in North Philadelphia, Pfeffer allegedly engaged Sgt. Fitzgerald in a direct confrontation that ended with the officer being shot six times, according to the police. While on duty, the officer was killed, leaving behind a family and five children. There were few information available at the time regarding Pfeffer’s status, but sources told Action News that he was hospitalized in a stable state.
