DENVER (DDN) – An SUV exploded up near downtown Denver on Thursday night. The explosion was heard in the region, and residents reported feeling it rattle buildings.
The Denver Police Department reported that the call came in around 10:10 p.m., and officers responded to the area near 6th Avenue and Speer Boulevard. The agency stated on Friday that police are currently looking for a person of interest.
Shortly after the blast, there were chaotic scenes in the parking lot behind a fast-food restaurant and next to a high-rise apartment building on 6th Avenue and Sherman Street.
“It was like a boom—very deep, very deep,” Persephone Buergin explained.
Buergin was working in a building near where the explosion occurred. Workers from several buildings were unsure what to do.
“They were likewise freaked out. Was there a smash into the building? What is going on? “Are we okay?” Buergin explained. The explosion was also felt on the 13th level of an apartment building where Karla Jaramillo resides. An explosion occurred near the structure’s base.
“We weren’t sure what it was. “We thought the building had been struck by lightning because the windows were shaking,” Jaramillo explained.
Police are looking for a person depicted in a photo given by a viewer to FOX31.
The individual was spotted going in and out of the car immediately after the explosion. Witnesses were astonished by what they saw. “You hear a large explosion like that. You think of flames and smoke. “There was nothing,” Buergin stated.
There was little indication of the bomb on Friday, except from some smashed glass. Police believe a propane tank exploded in the truck, but they’re not sure what caused it.
“Everything was shaky.” “We had no idea what had happened,” Jaramillo stated.
Police said no injuries were reported in the area, which can become congested with vehicles and pedestrians.
According to DPD, investigators want to speak with the person shown in the photo. Anyone who sees them is requested to contact DPD or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
