A guy has been arrested by Tampa Police in connection with a shooting death that shook a neighborhood this week. After a 32-year-old guy was discovered dead from gunshot wounds on Thursday afternoon, Derrick Smith, a 30-year-old black man born on January 3, 1994, was taken into custody on murder charges. According to a Tampa Police report, the incident happened on the 1000 block of Century Park Drive.
When police arrived on the scene, they found that the victim was another black man who was not carrying a weapon. Police have been informed by witnesses that they heard gunfire and saw Smith shoot the victim several times before he ran away. It has been observed that there was no close-quarters encounter before the shooting, with the victim having not been any closer than about three feet from Smith, and these reports seem to quickly contradict Smith’s early assertions of self-defense.
