According to authorities, a Tampa man attempted an armed carjacking at a Clearwater gas station and is now facing numerous charges. Following the incident that occurred at the On The Fly gas station off Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard shortly before midnight, Brian L. Davis, 44, was taken into custody earlier today, according to WTSP.
Davis asked for a trip to Tampa from a vehicle who was busy filling up their tank, according to the Clearwater Police. According to the Tampa Free Press, Davis reportedly became enraged by the driver’s refusal and tried to force his way inside the car, which led to a violent altercation. Davis is charged with using a “large piece of metal” as an improvised weapon during the altercation.
Davis allegedly exacerbated the situation, this time with a knife, as a friend of the driver, who was emerging from the gas station storefront, tried to step in, according to reports from the scene. Davis was apprehended after the police arrived in time to contain the situation, which briefly sent the gas station into a violent whirlpool.
Davis is currently being charged with criminal mischief, aggravated assault, and armed carjacking. Because of the incident, he was later booked into the Pinellas County Jail. “The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene,” according to a statement obtained by FOX 13 that stated the victim of the attempted carjacking was left with minor injuries and received on-site medical assistance from paramedics from Clearwater Fire and Rescue. Following the incident, the Clearwater Police Department has not released any further details on Davis’s intentions or the health of those involved.
