In the early hours last Friday, a shooting in Tampa left a man wounded, an event that ended when the suspect took his own life days later. The Tampa Police Department reported the series of events.
Officers first arrived on the scene following reports of gunfire on Hillsborough Ave, where they found a Hispanic male in his 60s with a critical chest wound. The victim, who has no knowledge of his attacker or the motive for the shooting, is currently recovering in the hospital, his life saved by swift medical attention, according to the Tampa Police Department.
Investigations led to the identification of Michael Shaheen, a 28-year-old connected to the shooting, and the vehicle involved, a silver Honda Accord from 2007. This identification sparked a court’s authorization to conduct a search of the vehicle in question, starting a chain of events that led police to Shaheen’s registered address.
When Shaheen returned to the vehicle and drove around his block before attempting to park at his residence again, the police made their move, executing a felony traffic stop that would escalate as Shaheen refused to adhere to police commands. The standoff with law enforcement stretched over three hours but ultimately ended with the SWAT team’s discovery of Shaheen’s fate. Tampa Fire Rescue pronounced him dead at the hospital after a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head was delivered, as per the details provided by the Tampa Police Department.
