A Taunton resident, Jermaine Rodrigues, has been sentenced to a prison term for illegal firearm possession. Last Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Angel Kelley handed down a two-year sentence to the 34-year-old, who will face an additional three years of supervised release following his incarceration. Rodrigues had previously pled guilty in June to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, as initially reported by theUnited States Attorney’s Office.
Details of the case reveal that Rodrigues was found in June 2022 with two Anderson Manufacturing AM-15, .300 blackout firearms one outfitted with a laser sight and optics. Alongside the firearms, Rodrigues had nearly 100 rounds of .300 blackout ammunition in his possession. The initial indictment came from a federal grand jury in July 2023.
Handling the case were Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division. The Taunton and Fall River Police Departments contributed significant assistance during the investigation. According to aUnited States Attorney’s Officeannouncement, Assistant United States Attorneys Luke A Goldworm and Meghan C. Cleary of the Major Crimes Unit led the prosecution of Rodrigues.
