Yesterday evening in Harwich, Cape Cod, five adolescents were involved in a high-speed car collision that resulted in the vehicle catching fire. Two Harwich police officers saw the speeding car when law enforcement was conducting speed enforcement; one recorded the vehicle’s speed as 60 mph, while the other estimated it to be 80 mph in a 40 mph zone. According to WCVB, the single-car collision occurred on Queen Anne Road, close to Rebecca Road, shortly before 11 p.m.
CBS News Boston said that the car caught fire when it veered off the road and collided with the guardrail. When responding officers arrived, they discovered four of the adolescents outside the vehicle and observed that none of them had been buckled up at the time of the collision. The officers quickly put out the fire with a fire extinguisher and freed a 17-year-old female who was stuck in the rear seat.
Two 17-year-old females were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after suffering severe injuries in the collision. Additionally hurt were three 18-year-old guys who were sent to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police have stated that all injured parties are expected to live, despite the incident’s severity.
According to Harwich police, there is no proof that alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision, despite the fact that speed has been identified as a possible contributory factor. According to police statements acquired by both news sites, the victims’ names and hometowns have not been made public, and it is still unknown whether the driver will be charged as the investigation proceeds.
