Texas AG Ken Paxton and 22 State Counterparts Demand Termination of Trump Investigations by NY AG Letitia James and Others

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, flanked by counterparts from 22 other states, has demanded an end to investigations into former President Donald Trump, calling them unjust and politically motivated. The coalition sees these investigations, conducted by New York Attorney General Letitia James, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, and Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, as an inappropriate use of the legal system. In a cease-and-desist letter, the coalition insisted on an immediate halt to what it deemed “unfounded prosecutions” targeting Trump.

“The American justice system was weaponized at unprecedented scale to harass President Trump, falsely damage his reputation, and derail his campaign,” said Paxton, according to

a statement obtained by the Texas Attorney General

. The letter argues that these actions constituted an abuse of power, aimed at undermining the previous administration and its ally. Paxton’s statement expressed views that the President of the United States is responsible for steering the nation toward a brighter future and that such politically motivated prosecutions interfere with that mandate.

Paxton has been at the forefront of opposing these legal actions against the former president, seeking to protect Trump’s integrity and uphold what the coalition considers proper legal process. He has taken measures to ensure transparency and accountability, as reflected in his actions last Friday and on Monday. On these dates, Paxton initiated a Freedom of Information Act request and filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice to safeguard records from Special Prosecutor Jack Smith’s investigation from destruction.

While Paxton leads this coalition, critics of President Trump maintain that accountability is paramount, irrespective of political standing or rank. Nonetheless, Paxton’s campaign against what he labels as baseless prosecutions advances, posing a significant challenge to the legal proceedings initiated by James, Willis, and Smith.
