Can you picture how grandma would react when she sees a postmark from a place called “Intercourse” on your Christmas card?
Yes, there is a town called Intercourse in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania. There are also towns called Kiester in Minnesota, Butts in Georgia, and Boody in Illinois. The city of Hooker, Oklahoma, however, could be compared to Virgin, Utah.
America has several city names that are rated PG-13 or R, in addition to the more common names like Springfield, Riverside, and Centerville. Estately, a website and iPhone app for searching real estate, recently created a list called “The Complete List of Lewd-Sounding Town Names in America.”
“Estately’s blog is primarily about helping people decide where to live, but it does so in a lighthearted and enjoyable manner,” explained marketing manager Ryan Nickum on Wednesday. “Will hundreds of people decide to live in Three Way, Arizona after reading about it on the Estately blog?” It’s unlikely, but if there is someone who does, we hope they will use Estately to find a home there.
