A heinous case of child abuse in Thousand Oaks has concluded with the conviction of Tekquan Alexander, a 28-year-old man found guilty of inflicting severe and disabling injuries on his 4-year-old daughter. According to information released by the
Ventura County District Attorney’s Office
, the jury found Alexander guilty of torture, assault on a child causing coma, and corporal injury to a child. Alongside his conviction on the primary charges, Alexander was also found culpable of special allegations, including the victim’s vulnerability and abuse of trust.
The abuses perpetrated by Alexander on his daughter date back to November 2021. In a statement obtained by
KTLA
, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office detailed that Alexander first assaulted his daughter with a belt and later with an electronic cable. This repeated violence led to the child suffering “catastrophic” injuries to her brain and spine, resulting in a coma. The tragic consequences stemmed from incidents including one where the child was beaten for wetting the bed. The severity of the beatings left the girl unresponsive in the bathroom of their home.
Deputy District Attorney Rikole Kelly, who prosecuted the case, expressed the gravity of the girl’s predicament in a statement to
the Ventura County District Attorney’s website
, commenting, “Alani faces a future filled with unimaginable challenges due to the defendant’s reprehensible conduct, but today’s verdict holds him accountable and brings a measure of justice to her and to all those profoundly affected by this case.” The child, named Alani, now requires significant and ongoing medical care due to the abuse.
Following his conviction, Tekquan Alexander is set to be sentenced on December 12, where he will face seven years to life in state prison, as per
KTLA
. During the trial, experts testified that the young girl’s injuries were consistent with abusive head trauma.
