Early Saturday morning, a shooting and subsequent fire in Lancaster, Los Angeles County, drew a fatal line through the heart of a neighborhood party. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, as reported byKTLA, deputies responded to calls of a shooting at around 1:27 a.m. in the 44500 block of North Tabler Avenue where they discovered a house engulfed in flames. The Los Angeles County Fire Department swiftly arrived to battle the blaze, with firefighters knocking down the fire in about ten minutes, while also facing a harrowing scene within.
Five individuals were found inside the home, four had been shot, and three of them were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were identified only as young adults in their 20s, as stated by authorities. A 16-year-old girl managed to call 911 while hiding in her room, fearing for her life. “She stayed in her room because she was scared and that’s when the deputies were able to locate her, extract her from the home,” LASD Detective Steve DeJong toldCBS News Los Angeles. Her quick thinking likely spared her from life-threatening injuries. The status of the injured remains unclear, and authorities are yet to publicly confirm if the suspect is among the deceased or still at large.
In the wake of the tragedy, residents and neighbors have been left reeling. “It’s a real quiet area so this is really shocking to us. We can’t wrap our minds around it because it’s insane, it’s insane,” neighbor Hector Gonzalez toldABC7. As the community grapples with the magnitude of this violent disruption, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
