Earlier today, an incident on westbound Interstate 94 in Detroit led to injuries of three Michigan State Police troopers, each of whom were investigating a separate crash at the time. A man from Harper Woods, who was later arrested for impaired driving, collided with their patrol cars on I-94 near Trumbull at around 12:45 a.m., causing westbound I-94 to close at M-10 for the investigation, though it has since reopened, as reported by

The Detroit News
highlighted the widespread issue of risky driving behaviors in Michigan, citing comments from MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, who stated, “We often talk about risky driving behaviors being the cause of most traffic crashes here in Michigan,” and adding, “This driver decided not only to not move over for emergency vehicles, but drive impaired as well.” The incident comes not long after a road construction worker was fatally hit on I-75 in southwest Detroit earlier this month and the death of MSP Motor Carrier Officer Daniel Kerstetter on September 13, who was fatally struck during a traffic stop on I-75 in Lincoln Park and later died from his injuries.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to review the investigation findings submitted by the MSP regarding this incident. The Harper Woods man involved in the crash could face serious charges depending on the outcome of the review.
