Traffic Disrupted After I-74 Crash Involving Freightliner and Van, Driver Rescued and Hospitalized

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (DDN) – An Indianapolis man was taken to the hospital after being extricated from a van following a Wednesday morning crash on Interstate 74.

According to a news release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, units from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelby County Fire Department, Waldron Volunteer Fire Department, and Indiana State Police responded to a personal injury crash involving two vehicles at 8:21 a.m. on Wednesday.

The collision occurred on the eastbound side of I-74 around the 118-mile marker. It included a 2015 Freightliner box truck driven by a 26-year-old Missouri man and a 2016 GMC full-size van driven by a 58-year-old Indianapolis man.

According to officials, the van rear-ended the box truck, trapping the driver inside. The Shelbyville Fire Department extricated the man from the vehicle.
The driver of the van was taken to an Indianapolis hospital, according to the release. The driver of the box truck was examined on the scene.

According to the release, this portion of the interstate was closed until approximately 10:54 a.m. on Wednesday as a result of the incident.
