WOODRIDGE, Illi. (DDN) – Two persons were killed in a violent incident Sunday night when a car swerved off the road and collided with a residence in west suburban Woodridge.
According to the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department, the incident occurred near Kildeer Street and Janes Avenue on Sunday night. The driver of a Tesla lost control of the vehicle, driving off the road, hitting numerous trees, and colliding with the side of a home.
The car then caught fire, and firefighters recovered two bodies from the smoldering wreckage. Both people were inside the automobile when it collided and were pronounced dead on the scene.
The identities of those slain have not yet been revealed by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office, and autopsies are expected for later Monday.
The reason of the crash is still being investigated, but the Woodridge police chief told WGN that excessive speed could have been a contributing factor.
Later Monday morning, Woodridge police released a news release stating that the Woodridge Police Department and the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department responded to the incident at 8:45 p.m. Monday at the 2400 block of Kildeer Street. When officers arrived, they discovered that a vehicle had left the road off Janes Ave. and smashed into a property at 2400 Kildeer St.

According to authorities, firefighters were able to remove the automobile from the home and extinguish the flames, and no one was wounded. The fire, however, caused severe damage to the home’s side and garage.
“Just all of a sudden I heard a bang from my house,” neighbor Adam Fick said. “… It’s kind of surreal.”
Another neighbor, identified only as Jason, stated that the crash was very loud.
“I was just sitting in the house with my wife and my son, getting ready to put my son to bed. We heard a couple loud booms,” Jason said. “We first thought it was someone just blowing fireworks in the neighborhood, then we heard another boom probably about 20 seconds later.”
Monday morning, tree branches and fragments of the Tesla remained scattered on the street and several houses’ front yards, with drivers proceeding with caution. Debris from the crash could be seen more than a block away.
