According to officials, two drivers were hospitalized following a head-on collision Thursday evening in Macomb Township.
According to a news release from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 5:36 p.m. on 12 Mile Road near Indian Pointe Drive, also known as Heydenreich Road.
According to the statement, a Ford Fusion driving west on 23 Mile allegedly crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming Buick SUV.
The 19-year-old Auburn Hills man driving the Fusion and the 62-year-old Oxford woman driving the Buick were both transported to nearby hospitals. According to sheriff’s officials, the young male is in critical condition, while the Oxford woman is stable.
The Fusion had no passengers, but the Buick did have one, who was brought to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the release. According to officials, a third car was involved in the incident, and the driver did not require medical transportation.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, and officers believe alcohol was not a factor.
Thursday’s event comes after another multi-vehicle disaster in Macomb Township last week. On December 17, a Jeep driver was killed after he collided with a semi-truck at the intersection of Garfield Road and Adelaide Drive. In an attempt to avoid the incident, a Ford Escape collided with the semi-truck.
Earlier the previous month, another crash in Chesterfield Township injured two persons. At 21 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue, a Toyota pickup and a Chevy Blazer SUV collided. Two persons, including a nine-year-old kid, were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Michigan State Police, there were 994 deaths and 5,388 serious injuries on Michigan roadways in 2024 as of December 10.
