Two Injured in Houston After Carjacking Leads to High-Speed Chase and Shootout on East Loop

Yesterday evening, a carjacking incident turned into a high-speed chase and gunfight that left two men injured, causing chaos on the East Loop. According to KHOU, the incident began at approximately 6:45 p.m. when a man’s car was stolen from him at a convenience shop near Martin Luther King Boulevard and West Bellfort Avenue.

Determined not to let his car slip away, the victim used his cell phone that was left inside the stolen vehicle to track it down. He then got into another car with someone and pursued his car, which led to a confrontation on the East Loop near Clinton. According to Houston Police, gunfire broke out during the shootout, leaving one man with a minor wound to his cheek and another with a lower body wound; both men are expected to recover.A third vehicle was reportedly found at the scene, but it escaped after the gunfire and is thought to be related to the original auto theft, according to Click2Houston.

Riley, who spoke to KHOU, “Investigators are working on it, but it’s a big mess right now.” Authorities suspect that one of the injured was the person who pursued the stolen automobile, while the other was likely involved in the car theft. The victim of the carjacking, who miraculously avoided being hurt during the pursuit and ensuing gunfight, went back to the convenience store where he was found to be in possession of drugs.
