DDN – According to law officials, two people on motorbikes were killed in a crash on Sunday afternoon. The accident caused I-295 near Old St. Augustine Road to be stopped and backed up for hours.
According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, two motorcyclists were riding southbound on I-295 at roughly 1 p.m. when the incident occurred. The two men were from Jacksonville, and they were 41 and 32 years old, respectively.
Officials say the two were both riding in the left center lane when they side-swiped each other, causing them to lose control of their bikes.
Both riders crashed off their motorcycles and landed on their shoulders, one on the inside and the other on the outside.
FHP said the 41-year-old was taken to the hospital where he later died. The other man died right there.
Traffic seems to be flowing again as of 7 p.m.
