JASPER COUNTY, Mo. (DDN) – Just before noon on Sunday, E-911 received reports of a two-vehicle head-on collision near 52nd and Baker Blvd (1 mile west of I-49 and Cedar Road).
Carthage Fire and Mercy EMS responded. Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified. Just before noon on Sunday, E-911 received reports of a two-vehicle head-on collision near 52nd and Baker Blvd (1 mile west of I-49 and Cedar Road).
Carthage Fire and Mercy EMS responded. Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified. On the scene, we discovered a car and an SUV had crashed at the peak of a hill. The route was fully obstructed, and plastic and metal debris littered the road and ditches. It was a hard collision. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles.
Troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol mapped the crash for investigation. The ambulance brought two persons to Mercy Joplin, one of them was a Priority 1 patient. The second car’s driver would seek medical attention and be transported in a private vehicle.
According to troopers, a black Mazda CX-5 SUV was going west when it crashed head-on with a silver Chevy Camaro. The Mazda crossed the centerline and collided with the Chevrolet. The motorist stated they were distracted while gazing at their vehicle’s dashboard map navigation screen (rather than their phone).
M&M Wrecker removed both automobiles and debris from the scene. The road was reopened to full traffic in around 75 minutes.
