Uniontown Man Arrested, Accused of Shooting and Robbing Elderly Victim Outside Pittsburgh Nursing Home

A 25-year-old man, Rawvil Yamil Brito Chirinos of Uniontown, has been arrested in connection with the shooting and robbery of a 70-year-old man outside a Pittsburgh nursing home. According to details reported by

TribLive

, this violent encounter took place Wednesday afternoon near the Corner View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center located at about 12:30 p.m. in the 6600 block of Frankstown Avenue, leaving the elderly man critically injured with a gunshot to his stomach.

The victim managed to enter the facility after being shot, where he described the attacker, and he was subsequently rushed to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition. Police used surveillance video to track a man matching the suspect’s description from the vicinity of the Homewood Healthy Active Living senior center to the crime scene. As the victim, in obvious distress, stumbled towards the safety of the nursing home entryway, the suspect fled along Washington Boulevard, as detailed in a

WPXI

report.

After local police officers detained Brito Chirinos, who initially identified himself as “Rull Brito,” on Frankstown Avenue, they confiscated a gold ring that was found on the suspect, which he had removed from around his neck, according to

. The police believed that the piece of jewelry was “crucial evidence” and feared it might be swallowed or hidden by the suspect if not secured immediately.

Brito Chirinos, currently awaiting a preliminary hearing, had his true identity revealed after police consulted with a border patrol agent.
