Today felt nothing like December, with highs reaching up to 16 degrees above average and reaching the 50s. The temperatures will not continue this high for the rest of the week.

Numerous clipper-type storms will pass over the region beginning Tuesday, causing a rollercoaster of warm and cold weather. Overnight, skies will become largely cloudy ahead of the first shortwave.

Lows will usually be around the 20s. Throughout the day on Tuesday, this system will move from Northwest Nebraska to Southeast Nebraska. Snow showers are expected in the far north, particularly at Valentine, Ainsworth, and O’Neill.

It will be slightly cooler, but the most significant change will be in the far north, where highs will be in the mid-30s. The rest of the area will have high temperatures in the 40s and lower 50s. The southeast and southwest will have the mildest temperatures. Tuesday night, clouds will clear and temperatures will drop into the mid-10s and lower 20s.

The sun will return on Wednesday, and the winds will be moderate. It will be cold in the east, but it will be warmer in the west.

The highs in Eastern Nebraska will be in the mid to upper 30s (near to average). Western Nebraska will warm back up into the low to mid-50s. The rest of the area will expect highs in the 40s. Most of the area will see milder temperatures on Thursday, however, northern portions will already be cooling off as the next cold front moves south.

The highs in the north will be in the 40s, but the rest of the area will be in the 50s. Across far Southern Nebraska and Northern Kansas, temperatures can reach 60° or higher. The only negative aspect of Thursday will be the heavy winds.

Colder temperatures will drop south by the end of the week, although not as far as the western section of the state. Highs will only reach the upper 20s and 30s in Central and Eastern Nebraska, but highs will remain in the 40s and lower 50s to the west. Sunday marks the beginning of a wonderful warm-up for the coming week.

The highs for Sunday will vary from the upper 30s east to the lower 50s west. Monday’s highs will range from the lower 40s in the northeast to the upper 50s out west. The nicest weather may be found on Christmas Eve (Tuesday) and Christmas Day (Wednesday).

Almost everyone will reach their fifties, and some may even reach their sixties. For parts of Northeast Nebraska, temperatures might stay in the 40s.
