UPDATE: Teen Arrested for Second-Degree Murder after Family Dispute Leads to Shooting in Florida City

Following a tragic incident in Florida City, Miami-Dade police stated that 18-year-old Kendy Javier Torres Figueras had been detained and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a man. According to a report from Local 10 News, the unnamed victim was discovered with a gunshot wound to the chest after the shooting, which took place close to the intersection of Palm Drive and U.S. 1.

According to reports, the incident started as a family argument. According to witnesses, the incident occurred after a relative, Torres Figueras, confronted the man. “Moments later, police said Torres Figueras pulled up to the scene in a Toyota Corolla and confronted the passenger inside the red pickup,” Sgt. David Hunsberger stated in a statement obtained by Local 10 News.

After that, the victim was instructed to leave immediately and told Torres Figueras to “stop threatening me” before gunfire broke out. According to NBC Miami, Torres Figueras turned himself in to Florida City police and was subsequently placed under arrest.

According to the arrest report, Torres Figueras was identified with the use of security footage showing the altercation and gunshot. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded quickly, airlifting the man to Jackson South Medical Center, but he was declared dead soon after. Hoodline also reported on the deadly incident, noting that Palm Drive’s westbound lanes were blocked while police investigated the crime scene.

The reason for this terrible conduct is still being investigated. Police verified that Torres Figueras renounced his rights and confessed to the crime while being questioned. He is still awaiting the setting of his bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. To help with the ongoing investigation, officials are asking anyone with more information to come forward.
