Ventura in Shock as Man Arrested for Series of Morning Assaults, Victims Expected to Recover

The downtown district of Ventura, California, is in shock following a series of brutal assaults that took place within 30 minutes on a Saturday morning. In relation to these crimes, a transient named Efrain Troncoso, 22, has been detained and is being charged with several counts of attempted murder.Around 7:04 a.m., a stabbing occurred on the 100 block of South Ash Street, according to CBS Los Angeles. This was quickly followed by another stabbing and other crimes.

A woman was stabbed in the neck near the 200 block of South Chestnut Street, barely two blocks from the original crime location. In the fourth incident, a man’s car keys were stolen at knifepoint on the 100 block of Palm Street, while the third victim was robbed and attacked with a metal pipe close to South Oak Street and East Santa Clara Street. According to FOX LA, Troncoso was discovered by police trying to start a car he had broken into with the stolen keys. Troncoso had only been released from jail a week earlier for allegedly resisting arrest and committing arson.

All four of the victims in this series of crimes were adults, and the injured were sent to hospitals for the appropriate medical care, including staples and stitches. “The two stabbing victims and the woman struck with the pipe were taken to hospitals for treatment,” Ventura Police Department Cmdr. Edward Caliento said in a statement that VC Star was able to receive. It is anticipated that every victim would fully recover.

Troncoso’s capture reveals a troubling trend of repeated criminal activity and run-ins with the law. According to additional information from a Ventura County Star article, Troncoso was involved in starting a fire at a nearby pet hospital’s parking lot on November 7 after having previously been arrested and given a judicial diversion. Five days later, he was again freed on his recognizance after resisting arrest, which resulted in an officer being hurt. Officers found the suspect with the weapons used in the assaults and arrested him without using more force. Efrain Troncoso is still being held in jail with a bail of more than $1 million. Tuesday afternoon is when the suspect is expected to be arraigned.
