Veteran Maple Shade School Bus Driver Fatally Hit by Another Bus at Depot; Investigation Underway, Schools Closed Wednesday

DDN – A respected Maple Shade School District bus driver was fatally struck by a school bus on Tuesday afternoon, the school district reported.

According to the school district, the man was outside his bus and was struck by another school bus in the bus depot at Maple Shade High School.

The driver of the bus that struck the man outside the high school stayed at the scene, according to the district. As of Tuesday night, no charges have been filed. The identity of the bus driver who was killed remains unclear.

The Maple Shade School District has announced that all of its schools will be closed on Wednesday.

The Burlington County Crisis Response Team and counselors will be available to assist students and staff for the remainder of the week.

“We understand that such news can be profoundly upsetting, and we are committed to providing the support needed during this time,” Maple Shade School District Superintendent Beth Norcia said in part.

The Maple Shade Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office are looking into the crash.

“Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, Maple Shade School District, and the community, which is devastated by what happened this afternoon. I can assure you that a thorough and complete investigation into the matter will be conducted,” Maple Shade Police Chief Christopher Fletcher said in a statement.
