Vickie Lynn Williams Declared Competent for Trial in Mount Dora Couple’s Murder Case

According to official court documents, Vickie Lynn Williams, the woman charged with the savage murder of a Mount Dora couple, has now been found able to stand trial. The new decision was the result of a reevaluation of Williams’ mental state after she was previously found incompetent in May of this year. According to WESH, an assessor stated that Williams had “sufficient present ability to consult with her lawyer with a reasonable degree of rational understanding” and is competent to comprehend the allegations made against her.

The victims, Darryl and Sharon Getman, were senior citizens living at Waterman Village, content with their retirement. In 2022, they were brutally murdered and discovered on New Year’s Eve. Williams, aged 50, is accused with two first-degree murder charges and one count of grand theft; the state has decided to aggressively pursue the death penalty. FOX 35 Orlando reports that Williams has a decades-long record of arrests for offenses ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, such as robbery and violence.

Williams was placed under the Department of Children and Families’ care for “competency restorations” after being declared incompetent earlier in the year. The judge’s decision at the recent October 23 competence hearing confirmed the doctor’s capacity to participate in the legal process and was consistent with her September evaluation. According to FOX 35 Orlando, the Getman family voiced their sorrow, saying that their parents were “enjoying their golden years staying active and spending time with their many friends.”

When Williams was first spotted wandering the retirement complex and even caused a resident to activate a panic alert following a questionable encounter, the police took notice. Following the killings, she was captured in Savannah, Georgia, and discovered in the green Kia Soul owned by the Getmans. The fingerprint evidence, according to the police, clearly shows that Williams was at the crime scene inside the Getmans’ house.
