Wayne County prosecutors charge Detroit-area man for alleged human trafficking, prostitution operation inside home

(CBS DETROIT)A 70-year-old man has been charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office with operating a prostitution and human trafficking ring out of his house.

Michael Richard Navoy, 70, of Allen Park, is accused of accepting a prostitute’s earnings, engaging in human trafficking through forced labor that leads to commercial sexual activity, using a computer to commit the crime of forced labor that leads to commercial sexual activity, and maintaining a prostitution house.

According to a news release, Navoy was taken into custody by Michigan State Police on Friday.

Detectives in Maumee, Ohio, were working with state police to investigate Navoy’s involvement in prostitution and human trafficking. Police discovered that Navoy was working from a Southgate residence he owns.

In a statement, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthyvin said, “Defendant Navoy is accused of engaging in human trafficking and running a house of prostitution in Southgate, Michigan.” “As a result of the combined efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies working together, this defendant will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

This coincides with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s announcement on Friday that four individuals were taken into custody in Metro Detroit on suspicion of being involved in an international human trafficking organization.

In Macomb and Wayne counties, authorities carried out search warrants at four suspected illegal massage parlors and two homes. From the suspected trafficking network, seven to nine women of Korean and Chinese descent were saved.

“We want people to understand that this is not a victimless crime,” Nessel stated. “It’s definitely a crime that involves victims of some of the most heinous acts you can think of.” These are the people who are detained in these structures. They are not permitted to go. They were even brought to gyms merely to take a shower and then returned. This is their whole life; they don’t have a life. Additionally, it’s a horrible way of life.
