West Michigan Brewery Unveils State’s First Indoor Pickleball Restaurant

In a groundbreaking move, a brewery in West Michigan is set to make waves as it prepares to open the very first indoor pickleball restaurant in the state. Broad Leaf Brewery and Spirits is set to unveil its latest addition – two brand new indoor pickleball courts. Located at 2885 Lake Eastbrook Blvd. SE in Kentwood, the brewery will be opening its doors to the public on Saturday, Jan. 20. This exciting new development is sure to attract pickleball enthusiasts from far and wide. The brewery claims that it is the first restaurant in Michigan to incorporate indoor pickleball courts into its amenities.

Grand Rapids area residents have expressed their strong support for the addition of pickleball courts at Broad Leaf. In a recent study, it was revealed that Grand Rapids secured the third spot in the ranking of cities with the highest level of interest in pickleball, as determined by Google searches. This recognition highlights the city’s growing obsession with the sport. Pickleball is a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a court that is similar in size to a badminton court and features a net.

“This city has a strong affinity for pickleball, and now we have the opportunity to welcome them to our establishment for a complete and immersive experience,” stated Lee DeHaan, the head chef at Broad Leaf Brewery. People have been enjoying themselves, engaging in spirited activities with their loved ones, and then taking the time to savor our delectable menu options while unwinding with a refreshing beverage.

At the taproom, guests have the option to scan a QR code to reserve a court, provided they are available. The cost for court rentals is $30 per hour, accommodating two to four players. The cost per person for a group of four is $7.50. Jared Rader, the General Manager of Broad Leaf, described the new offering as “affordable entertainment.”

Paddle rentals are now being offered to individuals who do not possess their own equipment. A Grand Rapids-based company called Kiwi Labs Pickleball has designed custom printed paddles made of carbon fiber. These paddles are known for their unique design.

Broad Leaf Brewery Owner Jason Spaulding expressed his satisfaction with the new courts, stating that they have seamlessly complemented the existing video games and activities. “Our establishment is transforming into a versatile entertainment hub that caters to families and provides a wide range of activities for all individuals.” “In addition to our core brewery offerings, we have expanded our menu to include a variety of mixed drinks, local seltzers, and a wide range of non-alcoholic options.”

In addition to unveiling its new pickleball courts, the brewery has introduced Kickpin, a unique fusion of soccer and bowling. Participants engage in a unique activity involving a futsal soccer ball and bowling pins. In a recent statement, Rader mentioned that Broad Leaf Brewery is considering the possibility of expanding their pickleball court offerings at their spacious location.

“We have room to expand with additional courts both within and potentially outside the building,” he stated. “Therefore, we are eagerly anticipating the outcome of this kick-off weekend.”
