West Palm Beach Steps Up in American Heart Association’s Walk to Fight Heart Disease and Stroke

Yesterday, West Palm Beach’s downtown became a hub of solidarity as participants in the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk took action against heart disease and stroke. Each step represented a commitment to improving community health and reducing the risks of heart disease and stroke.

According to a

report, the Heart Walk has become a long-standing tradition, raising awareness and advocating for better health outcomes for those battling cardiovascular diseases. Stacey Comerford, Executive Director of the American Heart Association of Palm Beach County, shared, “It’s really special to see the community really rally around this cause.” Participants, like Germaine Quitugua, a heart attack survivor, connected personally to the event. Quitugua said, “Today’s very emotional for me because I might have not been here.”

WPTV First Alert Meteorologist Jennifer Correa participated not only in solidarity but also due to her own experience with postpartum preeclampsia, which raised her awareness of her risk for heart disease. Correa shared, “I was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia, and it actually increases the risk long-term of heart disease and stroke,” according to

Through the walk, the community raised over $1.2 million for research and medical advancements. “For us, this is the community coming together saying we want to change, we want to do better, we want to change the statistic, and we want to help save more lives,” Comerford explained to
