Our goal was to determine which cities in West Virginia have the highest percentage of Black residents. These are the findings from our analysis:

  • Bluefield has a Black population of 22.05%.
  • The city with the fewest African American residents in West Virginia is Hurricane.
  • The hurricane has a Black population of 0.0%.
  • The population of Black people in West Virginia is 3.4%.
  • West Virginia is ranked as the 37th state with the highest percentage of Black population in the United States.

The Black community in America has been growing rapidly over the past decade. Approximately 42 million people who identify as Black or African American live in the United States. This group makes up about 12% of the total population. The most recent American Community Survey shows that there are 60,237 Black people in West Virginia, which makes up 3.4% of the total population.

The percentage growth of Blacks in America is the third highest among all races, according to the Census’s race and ethnicity definition. Many experts and historians believe that having more diversity in America is beneficial.

Method to Find the West Virginia Cities With Largest Black Population in 2024

We continue to have confidence in the reliability of data, particularly from the Census. That’s where we went to find out about the different races in West Virginia. The most recent data available is from the 2018-2022 American Community Survey conducted by the US Census.
