Western Massachusetts College Has Been Named the Most Dangerous College Campus in the State

Massachusetts is renowned for its numerous attractions, but one of its most notable features is the unparalleled concentration of colleges in the Commonwealth, along with the rest of New England. Massachusetts is home to several renowned and long-standing educational institutions, such as Harvard University. Established in 1636, it holds the distinction of being one of the oldest universities in the country.

In the state of Massachusetts, there were 146 colleges and universities with campuses spread across the region, from Cape Cod to the Berkshires, at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

According to UnivStats.com, the total number of students enrolled in Massachusetts colleges for the academic year 2023-2024 is 481,945. This includes 332,232 undergraduate students and 149,713 graduate school students.

Ensuring the safety of college campuses is a top priority for both students and parents. As reported by bestcolleges, a staggering number of over 31,000 crimes took place on college campuses during the 2021-2022 academic year. Among the crimes reported, burglary, rape, and motor vehicle theft stood out as the most frequently occurring.

Students at schools located in Massachusetts can breathe a sigh of relief, as even the college campuses that have been labeled as the “most dangerous” in the Bay State, are actually quite safe. A recent report by Niche examined the safety of campuses across Massachusetts, revealing that even the lowest-ranking school managed to achieve a “C+” in terms of campus safety.

In order to obtain their findings, Niche analyzed various data points including campus crime rates, local crime rates, student surveys, incidents of date violence in residence halls, drug arrests, and alcohol-related arrests.
