Today, a yellow bench serves as a memorial for individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as a place to rest. Vanessa, a local, started the project because she believed the community needed a concrete location to commemorate the lives lost and those changed by the virus.
City officials came together to celebrate the bench’s installation this past week. In a brief ceremony, Mayor Faron Young dedicated the area with the participation of Councilmembers Alan Price, Gregg Geesa, Paul Moore, and William Wright, as well as Mayor Pro Tem Amber Munoz. According to the City of White Settlement, “We can pause, reflect, and honor the memory of those we’ve lost or were impacted by COVID-19 at the yellow bench at Veterans Park,” Mayor Young stated. stating, “It serves as a reminder of the deep impact this pandemic has had on our families and our community while offering a space for healing and remembrance for all who visit.”
