White Settlement Police Department Launches Spanish-Language Citizens Academy to Enhance Community Relations

In an effort to improve communication between the local Spanish-speaking community and law enforcement, the White Settlement Police Department is starting a new project. The agency recently announced on social media that Corporal Laura Gonzalez will lead its next Winter Citizens Police Academy. “Foster relationships, educate the community of what the department does, and lead to future volunteer opportunities with the agency,” reads the post from the White Settlement Police police’s Facebook page, describing the eight-week course that will start on Thursday, December 5.

This specialized version of the Citizens Police Academy will be taught only in Spanish and is a direct response to multiple community demands. Contact Corporal Gonzalez at [email protected] or the general department email at [email protected] to register. Recognizing the importance of diversity and open communication, the initiative seeks to improve police work’s accessibility and comprehension among the Spanish-speaking population.

A graduation ceremony for the Winter Citizens Police Academy will take place in the Pecan Grove Convention Center on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 6 p.m.
