Whitmer, DeWine place friendly wager on Michigan-Ohio State game

(CBS DETROIT) Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine have placed a friendly wager on the outcome of Saturday’s Michigan-Ohio State football game in Columbus.

A bag of “Michi-gummies” from Shrums Candies, a company founded in Michigan, has been wagered by Whitmer. According to a news release from the governor, the gummies are in the shape of Michigan and are sold all around the state. Apple, cherry, grape, strawberry, raspberry, and watermelon are the six types of candies that are available for purchase.

“I can’t wait to watch the Michigan Wolverines beat the Ohio State Buckeyes for the fourth year in a row alongside thousands of college football fans across the nation,” Whitmer said. “I’m glad to bet Governor DeWine some fantastic Michigan-shaped gummies since I’m sure our Wolverines will win on Saturday. “Go Blue!”

DeWine has displayed a candy basket that showcases “local Ohio candy companies and flavors,” the press release stated. Buckeyes from Masrha’s Buckeyes, chocolate-covered pretzels from Malley’s, various chocolates from Esther Price, and Dum Dums lollipops are all included in the basket.

“With a spot to play in the Big 10 championship on the line, Fran and I are confident the Buckeyes will emerge victorious in the greatest rivalry in college football,” DeWine stated. “With some of the best foods Ohio has to offer, I’m honored to participate in this friendly wager with Governor Whitmer. “Oh!”

The match on Saturday is the 120th edition of “The Game,” which is widely regarded as one of the best rivalries in college sports.

The Wolverines (6-5, 4-4 Big Ten) have won the last three meetings and are ahead 61-51-6 in the series. From 2012 to 2019, the No. 2 Buckeyes (10-1, 7-1 Big Ten) won eight consecutive games.
