Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Siskiyou County Up to 10 Inches of Snow Expected

DDN The National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford, Oregon, has issued a winter weather advisory for Western, South Central, North Central, and Southeast Siskiyou County, in effect until Monday at 2 p.m.

Snowfall & Hazardous Travel Conditions

The advisory warns of 3 to 6 inches of additional snowfall, with up to 10 inches in higher elevations. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, making travel conditions hazardous.

A break in precipitation occurred Sunday evening, but snowfall is expected to intensify overnight, potentially affecting travel along I-5 near Black Butte Summit and Mt. Shasta City early Monday morning.

Safety Precautions for Drivers

Authorities urge drivers to slow down and exercise caution, as snow and ice could make roads treacherous. On average, weather-related crashes kill over 6,000 people annually in the U.S. and injure more than 480,000.

Winter Driving Tips

  • If travel is necessary, inform someone of your route and expected arrival time.
  • Keep your gas tank full and pack emergency supplies, including a scraper, jumper cables, a shovel, a flashlight, blankets, extra clothing, food, and water.
  • If stranded, stay in your vehicle, signal for help, and use your dome light and flashers.
  • Watch for snowplows and only pass when the road ahead is visible.

Residents should check road conditions before traveling and avoid driving in dangerous winter weather if possible.
