Wisconsin Man Crashes Into Teen’s Car at High Speed, Leaving One With Life-Threatening Injuries

RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (DDN) – Less than a minute after speeding past a marked Wisconsin squad car at nearly 100 mph, a crash occurred, sending five adolescents to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.

According to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, the incident started around 12:50 a.m. on March 9 when a Chevy Camaro passed a marked police car at 90 to 100 mph on 16th Street near Deane Boulevard.

Less than 30 seconds later, the speeding vehicle collided with an Impala at the junction of 16th Street and Taylor Avenue. The Impala was carrying five teens from Racine, including a 17-year-old female driver, two 16-year-old males, and two 17-year-old guys.

The 17-year-old girl was treated on the spot before being transported to Children’s Hospital via Flight For Life. According to authorities, the crash left her with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies stated that all of the passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Two of them were later moved to Froedtert Hospital for additional treatment.

The Camaro’s driver was identified as Salvador Coronado, a 34-year-old Racine resident. Coronado was brought to Froedtert Hospital with what are considered to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Coronado was previously convicted in Racine County of fleeing and eluding, operating while revoked (due to a past OWI), and two instances of bail jumping, according to authorities.

Coronado was sentenced to 18 months in prison and two years of extended supervision. Coronado was still under the Department of Corrections’ control at the time of the collision on Sunday.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is handling the crash reconstruction, while the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an overall investigation.
