Woman arrested in attack of postal worker, stealing van in Detroit, police say

Detroit police arrested a woman in connection with an attack on a US Postal Service employee Wednesday and the theft of her vehicle on the west side of the city.

The worker was driving a postmaster van on the 12000 block of Monte Vista at around 2:45 pm when a woman “pulled it out, dumped it, and took it,” said Officer Holly Lance, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department.

The employee has not reported any injuries to authorities, Lance said. “She was mostly fine, just traumatized.”

U.S. Postal Service officials late Wednesday did not immediately respond to a request for information about the worker or the incident.

Police officers in the station searched for the suspect for hours. They arrested a woman around 6:40 p.m. on the 11000 block of Appoline, a mile from the scene, Lance said

The 40-year-old suspect was taken to the Detroit Detention Center. The van was also recovered.

The attack on the federal employee came less than a week after two women were caught on camera assaulting another postal worker in Flint.

Flint police have arrested the incident.
